Monthly meeting of Ernakulam Psychiatric Society was held on 15 Mar 2019 at 2000 hrs at the conference hall of Renai Hotel, Palarivattom, Ernakulam.
After a minutes silent prayer, Dr MJ John, President of EPS welcomed all the members. In his opening remarks he stated that this is the last meeting to be organized by the present office bearers. Next month , we will be having the Annual General Body meeting. He thanked all the members for whole hearted cooperation through out the year to take forward the functions of the EPS. We could conduct monthly meetings every month successfully; was part of the International conference “WASP” Regional conference, and Mid term Practitioners CME of South Zone. Last month we had a one day Family day at Cherai beach also. World mental health day was celebrated on 10th Oct with a meeting at IMA hall and also by out reach programmes. World Suicide prevention day was observed on 10 Sep at Lourdes hospital. The Society strived to discuss and educate the members changing scenario in medical profession and psychiatric practice during monthly meetings. EPS also launched a website with the support of Dr Vishnu and Dr Aswin.
He thanked Dr Pratheesh, the Secretary, Dr Aswin, the Treasurer and Executive committee members for whole hearted cooperation throughout the year.
He requested all members to make it convenient to attend the AGM next month and be part of taking forward the activities of EPS.
Dr Vishnu stated that website is ready and requested all members to log in and register their membership. He hopes to collect next years membership through the website. Dr Kuruvilla Thomas stated that care should be taken to regularly update the website. He noted that some of the old events are still not appropriately categorised. President stated that this will be looked into.
Dr Aswin requested members who have not yet paid subscription for 2018-19 to do so at the earliest. He said that he will be available to collect the subscription of Rs 1000/ per adult for the Family Day attendees. The meeting then continued with the scientific part of the meet. Prof Dinesh, Prof and HOD at Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences chaired the session. He introduced the subject and speaker of the day. We had a novel subject of Neuro surgery for psychiatric disorders by Dr R Ramnaryan, a Neuro surgeon based at Chennai. He lucidly explained the various surgical options for a number of psychiatric conditions . Each condition was discussed with review of published surgeries . He stated that the main stay of his work was based on DBS, although much needed to be done to accept the utility of Neuro surgery in psychiatric illness. During discussions, meaningful additions were made by Prof Dinesh, Dr Philip John and Dr SD Singh. Meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Aswin.
