Ernakulam Psychiatric Society (EPS), in collaboration with the Ernakulam District Legal Services Authority (DELSA) and the NGO Maithri, continued its mental health awareness training program titled Mind Our Mind in Ernakulam district. This initiative aims to promote mental health awareness and life skills education, primarily targeting students as key influencers in the community.
The second training session was held on October 15, 2024, at Aluva Town Hall. Approximately 350 participants, including +2 students, teachers, Student Police, NCC and NSS volunteers, and psychology and social work students from Aluva and Paravur Taluks, took part in this important session.
The session was led by Dr. Benzir Hussain and Dr. Gargi Pushpalal, both psychiatrists from the Ernakulam Psychiatric Society. They delivered insightful talks on the following topics:
1. Mental Illness – Understanding and identifying common mental health disorders, along with coping strategies and treatment options.
2. Intellectual Disabilities – Addressing the challenges faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities and the need for early intervention and support.
3. Life Skills – Equipping students and educators with practical tools to improve emotional resilience, stress management, and interpersonal relationships.
The session provided participants with valuable knowledge on mental health, empowering them to address mental health challenges within their schools and communities. The emphasis on life skills helped students understand how to better manage stress, enhance communication, and build emotional resilience.
The Mind Our Mind initiative continues to make a significant impact by raising awareness about mental health and equipping participants with the tools they need to foster a mentally healthy society. This session in Aluva marks the second in a series of training programs, with the final session scheduled to be held in Ernakulam.
